An investigation by a team of experts from the University of Maryland could lead to new non-invasive technologies for portable brain-computer interface. Such technologies could potentially allow people with disabilities or paralysis operating a robotic arm, a motorized wheelchair or other prosthetic device, using a device that resembles a headset, which thanks to its sensors in contact with the scalp send signals from the brain to the device.
Under the direction of Jose Contreras Vidal, professor of Kinesiology at UW, the team of neuroscientists successfully reconstructed three-dimensional movements of the hand from brain signals recorded non-invasively.In this study, scientists placed a set of 34 sensors on the scalps of five participants to record the electrical activity of their brains, using electroencephalography (EEG). Researchers have developed a game that is controlled by eye movements, which could allow people with severe physical disabilities for the first time to play games.

Ian Beer and his team at Imperial College London, working in the laboratory of Aldo Faisal, have adapted an open source game called “Pong” in which a player moves a bat to hit a ball that bounces across the screen. The adjustment allows the player to swing the bat using his eyes.
To play, the user uses special goggles containing an infrared light and a webcam that records the movement of an eye. The webcam connects to a laptop computer where a program synchronizes the user’s eye movements with the game. (more…)
NVIDIA has just confirmed the details of its next generation platform Ion, eventually known as Ion 2. Unlike the original platform Ion, Ion 2 is a dedicated graphics core, not a complete chipset technology based on GeForce motherboard G 210M. Ion 2 provides much faster than the original platform without sacrificing too much battery life. In DirectX 9 level graphics (OpenGL 2), Ion 2 is about 50 percent faster than the original Ion and up to 15 times faster than Intel, DirectX 10 (OpenGL 3) doubles the performance of its predecessor. The new Toughbook C1 includes a dual-hinge design that makes the opening moves and separate hinge rotation and reduces the risk of rupture of the same with regular use. (more…)
According to an article published at TechNewsWorld, Symantec and Indiana University have warned a security breach that could allow hackers to attack through the routers where users keep the default settings for these devices .
In general, manufacturers of routers accompany their products with materials that inform about the need to change the default passwords set.
