SBSS

On Thursday, Air Force of the United States launched the first satellite dedicated entirely to monitor the thousands of pieces of space junk that man has been spreading around the Earth. The mill will have the sole mission of real-time monitoring of the positions of other satellites and the thousands of fragments of all sizes that float freely in the orbit of our planet. (more…)

rhea

In March 2008, scientists from University College London announced the existence around Rhea, the second largest satellite of Saturn, what appeared to be three rings formed by narrow strips of ice remains. The news had its importance since it would have been the first time rings around a moon rather than a planet. However, further study has confirmed that these rings simply were not there. So what the researchers saw the first time? (more…)

asteroides

Almost 7,000 asteroids, most of which are around one hundred meters in diameter, now moving toward Earth, according to a report less than 24 hours by the researcher Boris Shustov, director of the Institute of Astronomy of the Academy of Sciences Russia. (more…)

Scientists believe that water has existed on the moon for billions of years

Scientists at the Institute of Carnegie Geophysical Laboratory in Washington have discovered that the Moon’s interior contains much more water than previously thought, nothing less than a hundred times more. Research suggests that the water has kept the hot magma that was present when our natural satellite began to form for about 4.5 billion years, and most likely it will be commonplace within selenite. The research is published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS). (more…)

new-comet-mcnaught

A new comet may be visible to the naked eye from Earth in the coming weeks. Comet McNaught C/2009 R1-not to be confused with the famous comet of the same name already visited us in 2007, possibly the largest celestial fireball ever seen – was discovered by astronomer Robert McNaught last September from the Uppsala Schmidt telescope. The expert has a good eye, because this is the 51st comet that bears his name. At first, the object had a light very weak, but new observations made by the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory in Cambridge managed to follow its orbit. The experts were surprised. This is a phenomenon that appears very bright in the sky at dawn. (more…)

planet-impact

The Earth and Moon were created as a result of a collision between two giant planets the size of Mars and Venus. It was thought that happened when the solar system was about 30 million years, approximately 4.537 million years ago. But new research from the Niels Bohr Institute suggests that the Earth and the Moon appeared much later, perhaps 150 million years after solar system formation. The research results were published in the journal Earth and Planetary Science Letters. (more…)

jupiter-impact

Anthony Wesley, amateur astronomer whose name turned the world for almost a year to discover the impressive scar the size of the earth left by an asteroid in Jupiter, has once again hit the mark. This time, share the fame with another Filipino colleague, Christopher Go. Both have identified the impact of another object, possibly an asteroid or comet, the surface of Jupiter at the same time that occurred. The crash, which occurred on Thursday, might be videotaped by both observers. These are just a few seconds, but enough to distinguish a light flash in the clouds of the giant planet in the Solar System. (more…)

artificial-black-hole

Chinese scientists have successfully created a black hole in the laboratory. Of course, it is tiny, but it behaves and mimics the properties of one of these phenomena in space. For now, the only hole mini light traps in microwave frequency, but researchers are raised to go further and develop a hole that “swallow” the visible light. To build on existing, have used the same materials used to build the famous invisibility cloaks. (more…)

For the first time in the history of the conquest of space, six men simulate a flight to Mars with its actual duration, 520 days round trip, of which 30 will run on an imitation of the planet’s surface. The two previous experiments of the “Mars 500″ had been made so far prefacing a little over three months.

The Russians Alexei Sítev, Sujrob Kamólov and Alexander Smolensky, the Colombian-born Italian, Diego Urbina, French Romain Charles and the Chinese Wang Yue close himself on Thursday inside a building consists of three modules into a cylinder with a capacity 550 cubic meters. (more…)
