Jeffery-MondakOur personalities play an important role in every aspect of our lives, from hobbies to friendships and even whom to marry. And besides, as evidenced by Jeffery Mondak research, summarized in a recent book, our personalities also play an important role in our political behavior.

The findings of Jeffery Mondak in “Personality and the Foundations of Political Behavior” published by Cambridge University Press, from more than 13 years of study of the intersection between psychology and politics, and based on his own research and those of other experts.

It is only natural that personality contributes to shaping our political beliefs and our political behavior, but, as noted Mondak, this relationship has been largely ignored as a topic of study. (more…)

gamblingNew research reveals that the brains of compulsive gamblers (gambling addicts) reacts more strongly to the situation of losing almost that of normal players (not addicted to gambling). The finding could help explain why the gamblers are betting money even though it keeps losing.

The study scanned the brains of 20 players using functional magnetic resonance imaging while playing with a computerized slot machine. The gambling habits of the participants ranged from normal to severe addiction to gambling. (more…)

 

BenjaminA new study carried out mostly at Cornell University has explored the connections between religion and economic behavior in Protestants, Catholics and Jews.

Previous research on the effect of religion is based on correlations. However, Protestants, Catholics and Jews differ in things other than religion. And these other factors, some of which are difficult to quantify, they might actually be responsible for these differences in behavior. (more…)
