Possible way to combat one of the early effects of Alzheimer’s disease
One of the earliest disorders caused by Alzheimer’s disease, impaired sense of smell, has been reversed in a disease model in mice. This was achieved by removing plaque-forming protein.
The team of Daniel Wesson, a neuroscience professor at the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, USA, has confirmed that the protein, called beta-amyloid that causes impairment of smell.
