The launch of scientific satellite of the NASA Glory proved a failure. Its Taurus rocket-XL (3110) failed to separate the protective fairing and, lacking sufficient speed, the vehicle could not reach space. The ruling is even more serious because the previous flight of this rocket had been unsuccessful for the same reason, a problem that was believed solved.
The Glory takeoff was delayed a few days, since 23 February, due to problems with ground equipment. Once solved, NASA rescheduled the launch for the 4th of March. Everything seemed ready at the Vandenberg base in California, and the countdown progressed as planned.
