The robotic vehicle ‘Curiosity’ lands on Mars
The robotic vehicle ‘Curiosity’ has landed on the surface of Mars at 1.30 am on Monday (7.30 pm in mainland Spain), as reported by NASA through a statement.
The vehicle took off aboard an unmanned rocket Atlas 5 on 26 November, and during these nine months, has traveled about 60 million miles.
Over the next two years, the new NASA mission will consist of a geological expedition to a mysterious place called Gale Crater, located just south of the Martian Ecuador on Mount Sharp. Scientists believe the crater was formed approximately between 3,500 and 3,800 million years ago when Mars, the Earth and other planets of the solar system were bombarded by meteorites on a frequent basis.
